Greater Chance Of A Resolution Between The Patriots & Vince Wilfork?

According to Mike Reiss of ESPN Boston, there is a belief that the longer it takes for the Patriots and NT Vince Wilfork to address his contract situation, the better chance there is for a resolution that would keep him in New England.

  • Reiss admits that “anything is possible” in regards to this situation.

Reports surfaced close to two weeks ago that Wilfork had asked the Patriots to release him after the Patriots reportedly approached him regarding a restructured deal that would make him a “non-starter.

Wilfork, 32, is coming off of an Achilles’ injury and is entering the final year of his five-year, $40 million contract that included $25 million guaranteed.

His cap figure for the 2014 season sits at $11.6 million, and New England would free up $8 million in cap space by releasing, according to OverTheCap.com.

The Patriots are without a replacement and we’re already entering the third week of free agency, so it’s not as though it would be easy to find a capable player to add to their defensive line.

We’ll have to see if anything happens during the owners meeting.
