Green Bay Chooses Not To Franchise QB Matt Flynn

It was widely assumed that the Packers would be applying their franchise tag to QB Matt Flynn after they were able to re-sign TE Jermichael Finley a few weeks ago but the deadline has passed without any such designation.

Green Bay probably made the right decision as they prevented themselves from possibly paying Flynn a staggering salary of $14.4 million for the 2012 season. The Packers would have been able to trade Flynn for something, but interested teams would have had a lot of leverage and could have gotten him for less than the third-round compensatory pick that they’re believed to receive next season for losing him in free agency.

Now the attention turns to some of the prospective teams like the Dolphins, Browns and Seahawks. My money’s on the Browns but that’s purely based on my gut and nothing of substance.
