Greg Hardy Will Not Play This Season Now That Trial Has Been Postponed

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reports that Panthers DE Greg Hardy’s jury trial regarding domestic violence charges has been postponed.

  • It was set for November 17, but it will now be postponed until after the 2014 season.

Ian Rapoport reports that this will prevent Hardy from playing for the Panthers this season. Hardy had reportedly been texting with teammates and planning to be back at the team’s facility towards the end of his trial.

According to Rapoport, Hardy was confident he would be found not guilty and allowed to play again this season.

Hardy remains on the commissioners exempt list and continues to receive weekly payments for his $13.1 million salary.

Hardy, 26, will be an unrestricted free agent next year, however he could have a tough time securing anywhere near the type of contract he would have received as a free agent last year.

We have Hardy tentatively listed as the No. 7 player in our Top 25 – Free Agents list.
