Greg Jennings A Candidate For The Packers Franchise Tag

Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel was asked whether he believes Packers WR Greg Jennings is a candidate to be franchise following the upcoming season to which he responded, “absolutely.”

The Packers had limited cap room to work with back in March, which was one of the factors that led to Scott Wells departure from the team. Since then, Green Bay has created over $11 million in cap space and it appears as though the only other free agents that they’ll have to address are G’s T.J. Lang, Evan Dietrich-Smith and CB Sam Shields. Wide receivers that were franchised this year received $9.4 million, so it’s safe to assume that tagging Jennings would come close to that number.

Jennings will be 29 after the season, but has been such a huge component in the Packers’ offense that’s it’s really to imagine them not addressing his long-term future at some point in the near future. We have Jennings listed as No. 4 best available free agent in our Top 50 Free Agents list.
