Greg Jennings Available At The Trade Deadline?

Bob McGinn of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel writes that the Green Bay Packers would be wise to shop WR Greg JenningsĀ before the October 30th trade deadline.

McGinn even mentions that he is convinced that 2012 will be Jennings final season with the Packers, as he will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.

Many would assume that the Packers are poised for another Super Bowl run, but McGinn has been skeptical about the team’s improvements throughout the offseason. Trading Jennings now would allow them to address the contracts of younger stars like Clay Matthews, B.J. Raji and Aaron RodgersĀ in the near future. Green Bay has a lot of depth at the receiver position, even though Jennings was arguably as valuable as any player during the Super Bowl, and you could even make the case that Jordy Nelson is actually a better weapon at this point in time.

According to McGinn, the Dolphins, Bills, Browns, Colts, Raiders, Panthers, Seahawks and Rams could all be options for Jennings. AnĀ executive that McGinn spoke to said that he would be willing to part with a second-round pick in return Jennings. Green Bay would almost certainly secure the 91st overall pick in the 2014 draft if they were to allow him to leave via free agency, but trading him now would allow them to acquire a 2013 pick that should be at least a round earlier.

Miami has some well documented issues at the receiver position, as well as the extra draft picks that could get this deal done. The fact that their new head coach has a lot of respect for Jennings after working with him in Green Bay, only makes it seem like an even more plausible idea.

Either way, this is certainly one the more interesting trade rumors that we have come across in weeks. We have Jennings listed as the No. 3 best available player in our Top 50 Free Agents list.
