“Growing Buzz” In NFL Circles Regarding Texans CB A.J. Bouye, Could Secure $8M Per Year As Free Agent

Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports that there is “growing buzz” in NFL circles that Texans impending free agent CB A.J. Bouye will be among the most coveted players next year’s free agent market.

According to Wilson, Bouye is expected to cash in with either the Texans or another team and could ultimately command as much as $8 million per year in his next contract.

It’s looking like next year’s free agent market could be short on high-end talent at cornerback, which leaves Bouye in a great position, assuming he tests the open market.

For what it’s worth, it would run the Texans around $14.3 million to franchise Bouye next year.

Bouye, 25, wound up signing on with the Texans as an undrafted free agent out of UCF back in 2013. He returned to the Texans on a one-year, $1.671 million restricted contract this past March and is now in position to be one of the most sought after cornerbacks in next year’s market.

In 2016, Bouye has appeared 14 games and recorded 60 tackles, one sack, an interception and 15 pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 4 cornerback out of 118 qualifying players.

We have him featured in our Top 30 – 2017 Free Agents list.
