Handful Of Teams Interested In Teddy Bridgewater As Possible Starting QB

According to Adam Schefter, “at least a handful” of NFL teams expressed interest inĀ Vikings free agent QB Teddy Bridgewater last week as a potential starting quarterback. Schefter adds that Bridgewater does have a market developing, despite the concerns about his knee.

Yesterday,Ā Calvin Watkins reported that Bridgewater is looking for a one- or two-year deal this offseason with the hope that he can set himself up for a long-term contract extension down the road.

There has been some question about Bridgewater’s free agent status, given that the Vikings could have had a case that his contract should have tolled for the 2018 season after spending the first six games of the seasonĀ on the PUP list.

However, reports have said thatĀ Bridgewater will be a free agent in the coming weeks and MinnesotaĀ is not planning to contend that his contract should toll.

Bridgewater will be one of the most interesting free agents to watch, as he’s still a young quarterback who has shown some promise, but he suffered a very serious knee injury a few years ago that forced him to miss almost all of the past two seasons.

Bridgewater, 25, is a former first-round pick of the Vikings back in 2014. He’s currently in the final year of his four-year, $6,849,502 rookie contract and stands to make a base salary of $1,354,023 for the 2017 season.

The Vikings declined to pick up Bridgewater’s fifth-year option that would have cost them $12,198,000 million for the 2018 season. Bridgewater will now be an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his NFL career.

In 2017, Bridgewater appeared in one game for the Vikings and was 0-2 passing and threw an interception.

We have him featured in our Top 100 ā€“ 2018 NFL Free Agents list.
