Harrison Smith Has “No Intentions” Of Playing For Anyone Other Than Vikings

Vikings S Harrison Smith recently mentioned that he has “no intentions” of playing for another team when asked about potentially signing a long-term extension with Minnesota.

“That’s all I’ve thought of doing,” Smith said, via Matt Vensel of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. “I have no intentions of going anywhere else. I’ll just let [my agency] handle it. I’m just here to play football and we’ll see what happens.

Smith underwent offseason surgery on his hand, but he referred to the procedure as “minor.”

“It was minor surgery,” he said. “Nothing major, so this will be off in a couple of days.”

Smith, 26, still has another year remaining on his four-year, $7,138,546 rookie contract, which includes a base salary of $1,363,437 for the 2015 season.

In 2014, Smith recorded 92 tackles, three sacks, five interceptions, one forced fumble and nine pass defenses over the course of 16 games. Pro Football Focus has Smith rated as the No. 2 safety in the league out of 87 qualifying players, mainly due to his ability to play the run so well.

There’s no question that he’s in the discussion for the best young safety in the game, so it will be interesting to see if talks progress in the coming months.
