Fox’s Alex Marvez takes a look at QB Chad Henne as he prepares to hit the free-agent market on March 13th. Marvez claims that Henne is garnering the most interest behind presumed top options Peyton Manning and Matt Flynn.
Given that Drew Brees and Alex Smith will probably both return to their 2011 teams, the free-agent market is shaping up in parallel to the draft, where there is a clear top two, and then significant drop-off.
Teams apparently view Henne as a signing that will challenge for a starter’s job without commanding top dollar, but it’s unclear what separates him from the number of other free-agent quarterbacks who would seem to fit the same bill. Jason Campbell, Kyle Orton, Vince Young, or even Rex Grossman, who will certainly come at a reduced price, all don’t appear far behind Henne, if at all.
Either way, as Marvez points out, the Seahawks, Broncos, and Chiefs are all teams that could be interested in signing this type of QB, with questionable, yet fairly well entrenched, options at the position.
