Hillis A Candidate For Browns Franchise Tag

According to today’s Interview with Cleveland Browns Head Coach Pat Shurmer, the team could be looking to use its franchise tag on RB Peyton Hillis, per Scott Petrak.

Petrak mentions that K Phil Dawson could also be a candidate for the designation but a decision will ultimately be determined by what they choose to do with ILB D’Qwell Jackson.

It seemed like the Browns had originally intended to use that tag on Jackson, but there’s still a chance that Cleveland could get a long term deal done with him.  The reports of Hillis’s future with the team have been up and down dating back to last season when there where concerns about his contract and his commitment to the Browns.

If the Browns do decide to keep Hillis and pay him the 7.7 million expected for the franchise tag, they will most likely be doing so in the hopes that he will stay healthy and return to his 2010 season form, when he burst on to the scene rushing for 1,177  yards, 11 rushing touchdowns and adding 61 catches out of the backfield.
