Hines Ward Willing To Take Pay Cut To Stay With Steelers

There has been a lot of talk about Hines Ward‘s future in Pittsburgh now that the Steelers have been eliminated from the playoffs but Ward has said that he intends to play again next season.

In an interview with Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Ward mentioned that he wants to return to the Steelers first and foremost and is willing to even renegotiate his deal to do so.

I’d probably have to restructure my contract,” Ward said of the pay cut. “That’s fine with me. I recognize that. I’m telling you I want to be here, I’m telling you I’m willing to do that. And I understand the ramifications — we have the cap number and stuff, but I want to be here.”

The Steelers will have some tough decisions to make and Ward figures to be one of them as he’s set to make $4 million next season.  That’s way to much to pay a role player who plays a position of depth for the team. 2012 should feature more of Mike Wallace, Antonio Brown, and Emmanuel Sanders so we’ll have to see how Pittsburgh handles their former star.
