It Would Cost $21.99 Million to Franchise Mario Williams

Andrew Brandt of ESPN (formerly an agent and also worked for the Green Bay Packers) confirms that it will cost the Houston Texans $21.99 million dollars to place the franchise tag on former 1st overall pick Mario Williams.

Williams played in just 5 games at outside linebacker in 2011 before being placed on Injured Reserve. He has 53 career sacks and should be one of the hottest free agents during the offseason.

Lining him up opposite of DeMarcus Ware is an absurd thought for opposing offenses. Dallas has some cap room but need to make major overhauls in the secondary and their interior o-line but Jones could kick the tires on the idea of signing him. It would still be a surprise to see them actively pursuing him.
