J.J. Wilcox Changes Mind About Signing With 49ers, Now Traveling To Sign With Jets

Adam Schefter is now reporting that veteran S J.J. Wilcox was in 49ers’ offices to sign on Tuesday when he “flipped” and decided that he wanted to sign with the Jets instead.

“He got stage fright,” a source tells Schefter.

Wilcox is now traveling to New York to sign with the Jets.

Wilcox, 27, is a former third-round pick of the Cowboys back in 2013. He has played out his four-year, $2,811,068 contract with the Cowboys before signing a two-contract with the Buccaneers worth up to $8.5 million.

The Buccaneers traded him to the Steelers at the start of the 2017 season for a 2018 sixth-round pick.

Wilcox was set to make a base salary of $3.125 million for the 2018 season when the Steelers released him a few months ago.

In 2017, Wilcox appeared in 12 games for the Steelers and recorded 12 tackles, one interception and a pass defense.
