Jaguars 2012 Second-Round Pick DE Andre Branch On The Chopping Block?

Ryan O’Halloran of the Florida Times Union reports Jaguars 2012 second-round pick DE Andre Branch is on the roster bubble.

  • O’Halloran adds that Branch’s lack of consistency in training camp has led to him being in this position.

Branch has been working with the Jaguars second-team defense and is one of 15 defensive linemen currently on the team’s roster. He played only eight snaps during last week’s preseason game against the New York Jets.

Both Branch and HC Gus Bradley mentioned that a lack of third-down passing situations were to blame for the limited number of snaps.

According to O’Halloran, it’s possible that the Jaguars could seek a trade partner for Branch. O’Halloran also notes that Branch would be “almost be guaranteed to be claimed” on waivers if the Jaguars released him.

Cuts begin following this week’s preseason action and a cut down to 53 comes next week, so this is a situation we’ll be monitoring in the coming days.
