Jaguars Claim WR Kevin Smith Off Waivers From Cardinals

According to John Oehser of Jaguars.com, Jacksonville has claimed WR Kevin Smith off of waivers from the Cardinals.

  • The Jaguars subsequently waived long snapper Trevor Gillette in a corresponding move to free up a roster spot.

Smith signed with the Cardinals an undrafted free agent out of Washington following this year’s NFL Draft. However, he lasted just a matter of weeks before the team placed him on waivers Wednesday.

Back in 2011, Smith suffered a torn ACL that impacted his play upon returning, but he would later get back to being consistent player for the Huskies.

Last year, he posted 785 yards receiving and averaged a team-high 15.3 yards per reception.

Jacksonville has shown a tendency for bringing guys in to compete at all positions, so he’ll need an extremely impressive offseason to secure spot on either the team’s practice squad or 53-man roster.
