Jaguars Expected To Release DE Jason Babin

According to Dan Pompei of the Bleacher Report, the Jaguars are expected to release veteran Jason Babin at some point this offseason.

Pompei adds that although Babin may have lost some of his overall athleticism, NFL teams in need of pass-rush help believe he could be an effective situational pass rusher.

Babin, 33, has two years remaining on his contract and stands to make $6 million per season over the remainder of his contract. Babin will count $6.175 million against the Jaguars salary cap in 2014, so he is an obvious candidate for either a restructured contract or possibly being a cap casualty.

In 2013, Babin produced 40 tackles, 7.5 sacks and three forced fumbles for the Jaguars defense.
