The Jaguars announced that they’re hosting eight players for tryouts during their mandatory minicamp this week including FB Lamar Atkins, TE Ashton Broyld, CB Charles Gaines, QB Justin Holman, P Peter Mortell, LS Taybor Peppers, WR Garrett Scantling and K Nicholas Weiler.
Gaines, 24, is a former fifth-round pick of the Browns back in 2015. He was in the second year of his four-year, $2,402,136 contract when the Browns elected to cut him loose coming out of the preseason last year.
The Bills later added Gaines to their practice squad toward the end of the season before waiving a few weeks ago.
Gaines spent a good portion of the 2015 season on injured reserve with a hamstring injury.
In 2015, Gaines appeared in five games for the Browns and recorded 15 tackles, a forced fumble and two pass defenses.
