Ryan O’Halloran of the Florida Times Union mentions that the belief regarding the Jaguars plan for impending free agent RB Maurice Jones-Drew is that they would be interested in bringing him back “at a reasonable price and with the understanding he will have an adjusted role.”
This coincides with previous reports that the Jacksonville is open to retaining Jones-Drew, assuming his asking price is reasonable.
“I know what I have left, and I feel like it’s a lot,” said Jones-Drew. “I’ll just go home, relax and hopefully things will work out for the best.”
Jones-Drew, 29, will have a hard time securing a big deal given his age, mileage and the recent contracts signed by players over 29 years of age. Even so, Jones-Drew mentioned that he has no intention of getting involved in contract discussions this offseason.
“I tried to talk [by holding out in August 2012], and I’m done talking,” Jones-Drew said.
O’Halloran mentions that the contract the Falcons gave to RB Steven Jackson last offseason — three-years, $12 million deal and $4 million guaranteed — could be a reasonable contract for Jones-Drew.
