Jones’ 2017 base salary of $2.5 million is fully guaranteed and he’s set to be paid a $1 million roster bonus on March 13. Jones’ $3 million base salary in 2018 is also fully guaranteed.
The Jacksonville Jaguars announced Wednesday that they’ve signed DT Abry Jones to a new four-year contract.
“I’m excited to be back with the Jaguars after earning a spot on the team four years ago,” said Jones. “Coach Wash has believed in me since day one and I’m looking forward to what the future holds with him continuing as my defensive coordinator. I’m also glad to be back with my teammates and we’re even hungrier this year to improve as a unit and as a team. I’m going to celebrate this incredible opportunity with my family and friends and then it’s time to get back to work.”
Mike Kaye of First Coast News, citing multiple NFL sources, reports that the Jaguars and DT Abry Jones are close to an agreement on a four-year contract worth just under $16 million and includes $6.5 million guaranteed.
Jones is in line to be one of the best available interior defensive linemen available in this year’s free agent class, so it will be interesting to see what kind of deal he’s able to secure close to a month away from the start of free agency.
Jones, 25, wound up signing on with the Jaguars as an undrafted free agent out of Georgia back in 2013. He’s managed to make the 53-man roster since entering the NFL and returned to the Jaguars last year on a one-year, $2.553 million contract.
In 2016, Jones appeared 15 games for the Jaguars and recorded 32 tackles, no sacks, and a pass defense. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 21 interior defensive lineman out of 127 qualifying players.
