Jaguars Picked Up $6M Of Cap Room By Reworking LB Telvin Smith’s Contract

Fied Yates of ESPN writes that the Jaguars wound up convertingĀ LB Telvin Smith‘s $8 million roster bonus that was due this past Sunday into a signing bonus and in turn created $6 million of cap space for the 2018Ā season.

Smith, 26, is a former fifth-round pick by the Jaguars in the 2014 NFL Draft. He was in the final year of aĀ four-year, $2,431,052 rookie contract when the Jaguars signed him to aĀ four-year, $50 million extension last year.

Smith stands to make base salaries ofĀ $690,000 and $3 million over the next two years of the agreement.

In 2017, Smith appeared in 14 games for the Jaguars and recorded 102 tackles, one sack, three interceptions with one being returned for a touchdown, a forced fumble, two recoveries with one being returned for a touchdown and five pass defenses.
