The Jacksonville Jaguars announced Tuesday that they have placed veteran TE Marcedes Lewis on injured reserve with the designation to return.
Following Sunday’s loss to Washington, reports indicated that Lewis could be out 6-8 weeks with an ankle injury.
The Jaguars promoted rookie TE Marcel Jensen from the practice squad on Tuesday to take Lewis’ place on their active roster.
Lewis, 30, is in the fourth year of his five-year, $35 million contract that included $17 million guaranteed. He has a base salary of $6.7 million for the 2014 season.
Last year, Lewis appeared in 11 games and caught 25 passes for 359 yards receiving and four touchdowns.
