Jaguars “Team To Watch” For Free Agent DL Calais Campbell

Update:

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Jaguars are “the team to watch” in regards to freeĀ agent DL Calais Campbell.

“Keep an eye on the Jacksonville Jaguars here,” Rapoport said. “They do have a lot of money invested in that position. Of course, last year with Malik Jackson, similar player, similar position, but I am told they are the team to watch here as far as where Calais Campbell may end up.

Rapoport added that the Cardinals made a “strong effort” to re-sign Campbell by offering him over $10 million per year, but he’ll probably be able to get even more money than that in the coming days.

According toĀ Mike Klis of 9News, theĀ Jacksonville Jaguars are in play for Cardinals free agent DL Calais Campbell.

Campbell has been linked to the Broncos in the past few weeks, but he’s expected to command a huge salary, which could easily take Denver out of the running for him.

Jacksonville has plenty of cap space to get as aggressive as they would like in free agency, so this is certainly something to monitor in the coming days.

Kent Somers of the Arizona RepublicĀ recently mentioned that the Cardinals are likely to lose Campbell to a big-money deal in free agency.

Somers believes he could be looking at an even more lucrative contract.Ā One estimate from a few days ago indicated that Campbell could be targeting over $14 million per year.

We’ve also seen the Buccaneers tossed out as a team to watch for Campbell in the coming days.

Campbell, 30, is a former second-round pick of the Cardinals back in 2008. He played out the final year of his five-year, $55 million contractĀ that includedĀ $17 million guaranteedĀ andĀ will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

In 2016, Campbell appeared in all 16 games for the Cardinals and recorded 53 tackles, eight sacks, an interception, three fumble recoveries with one being returned for a touchdown, two forced fumbles, six pass defenses and a safety.Ā Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 2 interior defensive lineman out of 127 qualifying players.

We have him featured in ourĀ Top 100 – 2017 Free Agents list.
