Jaguars & Raiders Expected To Make Strong Plays For Ndamukong Suh & Others In FA

According to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, the Jaguars and Raiders are both expected to make “strong plays” for free agent DT Ndamukong Suh in free agency.

Beyond that, La Canfora can see the Jaguars actively pursuing other notable free agents like Packers WR Randall Cobb and Broncos TE Julius Thomas.

The Raiders will have a phenomenal amount of cap space that will need to get spent, so the fact that they are expected to be in on big-name free agents like Suh shouldn’t come as much of a surprise.

La Canfora writes that the Raiders want to find some quality assets they can pair around young QB Derek Carr. A lower level free agent to keep an on for the Raiders, according to La Canfora is TE Ed Dickson.

Getting back to Suh, the Lions have been working to try to get an extension in place with before the start of free agency. However, unless Detroit is willing to offer him a record-breaking contract, it’s probably in Suh’s best interest to test the open market and meet with cap-rich teams like the Raiders and Jaguars, even if he plans on signing elsewhere.

You could make the case that Suh would be a great fit any team, but the Jaguars could especially use him in the middle of their defense. Suh could help set a tone for their entire team while getting a monster extension that would likely leave him as the highest paid player in the game.

Suh, 27, is arguably the best available player in this year’s free agent class and should set the bar for defensive linemen when all is said and done.

In 2014, he recorded 51 tackles, 8.5 sacks and three pass defenses over the course of 16 games. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 3 defensive tackle in the league.

We have Suh ranked as the No. 2 player in our Top 100 Free Agents List.

  1. He wouldn’t play for either of these teams. He will only be considering teams he knows will have the best chances of making the playoffs. I heard one rumor that unless it was a team like Seattle or The Patriots he would rather stay in Detroit where the program is progressing with Coach Caldwell.
