Jaguars Release LB Jonathan Freeny To Make Room For DT Marcell Dareus

The Jaguars announced that they’ve released LB Jonathan Freeny on Saturday to make room for DT Marcell Dareus, who was traded to Jacksonville in return for a conditional 2018 sixth-round pick.

Freeny, 28, originally signed on with the Dolphins as an undrafted free agent out of Rutgers back in 2011. He spent four years in Miami before signing on with the Patriots as an unrestricted free agent in 2015.

The Patriots signed him to a two-year contract extension coming out of the preseason last year but elected to cut him loose on Saturday as they trimmed their roster down to 53 players.

The Ravens signed him to a contract a few weeks ago but recently elected to cut him loose. Freeny just signed on with the Jaguars a few days ago.

In 2017, Freeny has appeared in three games and recorded two tackles and no sacks for interceptions.
