Jaguars Release Veteran DE Chris Clemons

The Jacksonville Jaguars announced Thursday that they’ve released veteran DE Chris Clemons.

Clemons, 34, was entering the third year of his four-year, $17.5 million contract that included $5.475 million guaranteed. He was set to make a base salary of $2.975 million for the 2016 season.

According to OverTheCap.com, releasing Clemons will free up $4 million in available cap space while creating no dead money.

In 2015, Clemons appeared in all 16 games for the Jaguars and recorded 14 tackles, three sacks, a forced fumble, a recovery returned for a touchdown and a pass defense. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 110 edge defender out of 110 qualifying players.
