Jets Sign WR Mohamed Massaquoi

Update:

Ian Rapoport of NFL.com reports that WR Mohamed Massaquoi has signed with the Jets.

It did not take long for Massaquoi to generate interest with another team, and it makes sense that the Jets would try to sign him since WR Santonio Holmes continues to have lingering foot issues.

Massaquoi should be in contention to make the final 53-man roster, but nothing is guaranteed, especially after having a weak showing during his short stint with the Jaguars.

Mike Garafolo of Fox Sports reports that the Jacksonville Jaguars will release WR Mohamed Massaquoi today.

  • Mark Long reports that G Jason Spitz will also be released.

Massaquoi, 26, signed a two-year, $1.7 million contract with the Jaguars back in April. He has been underwhelming throughout much of the preseason and was reportedly behind rookie Ace Sanders, Mike Brown and Tobias Palmer.

Massaquoi received 43 snaps during the Jaguars first two preseason games, according to Pro Football Focus.

We’ll have to see if a receiver-needy team shows interest in him at some point in the near future.
