Jaguars Sign HC Gus Bradley To A One-Year Extension

The Jacksonville Jaguars announced that they’ve signed HC Gus Bradley to a one-year extension on Friday.

For an organization that we believe is ready to make its move, extending Gus through the 2017 season provides our club with much-needed stability in every respect,” General Manager Dave Caldwell said in a statement. “It solidifies Gus’ good standing with our current players, provides certainty for free agents who may be considering the Jaguars and helps to deliver the continuity throughout our coaching staff that we think is critical for us to turn the corner.

“It also gives us the best opportunity to win in 2016. I appreciate [Jaguars Owner] Shad [Khan] supporting this approach as we enter a pivotal season with high expectations at every level of the organization.

Since being hired as the Jaguars’ head coach back in 2013, Bradley has led to team to a record of 12-36 (25 percent), which has been good enough for third in the division each year.

It’s rare for a coach to retain their job after three seasons in which they’ve managed to win six or fewer games, but the Jaguars were a pretty big rebuilding project.

Khan has always maintained that he’s in this for the long-haul, so it was unlikely that he would have made any major changes barring an embarrassing season.

It will be interesting to see what Bradley is able to do with Jaguars in 2016 and if they can compete for the AFC South title.
