Jaguars Targeting Alabama WR Amari Cooper At No. 3 Overall?

An AFC personnel man – whose team is selecting outside of the top 10 picks – tells Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports that the Jaguars could surprise some people by taking Alabama WR Amari Cooper at No. 3 overall.

“I think the third spot could shock people [again],” the personnel man said. “I think they like [Amari] Cooper more than they are letting on. You hear things and they have been pretty good about what’s getting out there. It’s a lot like it was last year.

Receiver isn’t at the top of the Jaguars’ list of needs, and they wound up using multiple second-round picks on Allen Robinson and Marqise Lee last year.

However, the personnel man mentions that neither of them could end up being elite receivers in the NFL and already have some concerns regarding their ability to stay healthy.

Which of their receivers has the potential to be elite at his position and how many of them were healthy?” the personnel man asked. “They were [31st] in passing [last season]. … Maybe Cooper is the best player in the draft. If that’s the case, you make two positions better with that pick – and one of the positions you’re improving is the most important in the game.

Robinson mentions that if this ends up being the Jaguars pick, it could trigger a run on wide receivers earlier than anyone anticipated.
