Jaguars Targeting An OT At No. 2 Overall?

Daniel Jeremiah of the NFL Network reports that “several” GMs and personnel directors expect the Jaguars to take an offensive tackle with the No. 2 overall pick in the draft.

  • ESPN’s Chris Mortensen adds that he too has been hearing that the Jaguars could be targeting an offensive tackle in round one.

The idea is somewhat curious given that Jacksonville has Eugene Monroe manning the left tackle spot. Last year, Monroe graded out as a top-ten left tackle according to Pro Football Focus and is still only 26-years-old.

The Jaguars are in position to get either Luke Joeckel or Eric Fisher depending on who the Chiefs at No. 1 overall. Both players are considered to be close in terms of ability and are generally considered to be two of the safest players in this year’s draft class.

Still, it would be surprising to see them pass on a defensive lineman like Oregon’s Dion Jordan or Florida’s Sharrif Floyd. Geno Smith has also been mentioned as a speculative option for them.

This could always be an attempt by Jaguars to drum up interest from a team that’s willing to trade up for one of the best left tackles.
