Jaguars TE Marcedes Lewis Unlikely To Be On The Chopping Block

According to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, Jaguars TE Marcedes Lewis is expected to be back with the team next season.

Lewis has been mentioned as a potential roster cut given that he has yet to live up to the five-year, $35 million contract he received from the Jaguars back in 2011.

Lewis, 29, has a $6.7 million base salary for next season and the Jaguars could free up $5.45 million by releasing him, according to OverTheCap.com.

However, cap space is not among the Jaguars most pressing issues and releasing Lewis would only create another roster hole on a team that’s already in the process of building.

This is, of course, a situation that the Jaguars could revisit next year depending on what Lewis is able to do for them next season.

In 2013, he caught 25 receptions for 359 yards and four touchdowns.

  1. It pains me to say as a jags fan but it’s time to move on from marcedes. He’s a great player when he’s on the field, unfortunately that’s not very often. That will be more money better spent elsewhere.
