Jaguars Waive S James Sample, Sign S Jeron Johnson

The Jacksonville Jaguars announced Sunday that they’ve waived S James Sample and signed S Jeron Johnson to a contract.

Sample, 25, is a former fourth-round pick of the Jaguars back in 2015. He’s currently in the third year of his four-year, $2,828,580 contract and stands to make base salaries of $615,000 and $705,000 over the next two years of the agreement.

In 2015, Sample appeared in four games for the Jaguars and recorded 15 tackles and one pass defense. He missed the 2016 season due to a shoulder injury.

Johnson, 28, wound up signing on with the Seahawks as an undrafted free agent out of Boise State back in 2011. He spent four years in Seattle before signing a two-year, $2.5 million with the Redskins in 2015.

Washington elected to cut him loose after one season and Johnson later signed on with the Chiefs in August of last year. Unfortunately, Johnson among their final roster cuts coming out of the preseason and it took until December for him to catch with the Seahawks.

In 2016, Johnson appeared in four games and recorded five tackles and no interceptions.

We had him featured in our Top 50 Available Free Agents list.
