Jaguars Won’t Use Franchise Or Transition Tag On WR Allen Robinson

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Jaguars have informed WR Allen Robinson that they won’t be applying either the franchise or transition tag to him.

This, of course, means that Robinson will get the opportunity to test the open market next week unless the Jaguars are able to sign him to a long-term deal in the coming days.

Reports have already connected Robinson to the Redskins as one possibility worth watching in the coming weeks, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see other teams get involved.

Franchising Robinson would have cost the Jaguars around $16 million fully guaranteed for the 2018 season.

Should Robinson end up testing the open market, Rapoport expects him to be one of the more coveted free agents this offseason. As long as everything checks out with Robinson’s knee, Rapoport says that the Bears, 49ers, Redskins and possibly the Raiders are likely to be among the teams in need of receiver help.

Robinson, 24, is a former second-round pick by the Jaguars in the 2014 NFL Draft. He played out the final year of a four-year, $3.510 million rookie contract and made a base salary of $898,755 for the 2017 season.

Robinson is now in position to test the open market for the first time in his NFL career.

In 2017, Robinson appeared in one game and caught one pass for 17 yards and no touchdowns.

We have him featured in our Top 100  – 2018 NFL Free Agents list.
