Jahvid Best Still Needs To Be Cleared Before He Can Return To Contact Drills

According to Dave Birkett of The Detroit Free Press, Lions RB Jahvid Best still needs to be cleared by team doctors” before he can return to full-contact drills.

Birkett adds that Best is “expected in town to take part in the start of Lions offseason program” on Monday, which is a good sign that he’s slowly working himself back.

Last season, Best suffered another serious concussion that led him to miss the final 10 games of the season.  There was some speculation that  Best could retire due to his history of concussions, and the Lions may look to draft another running back, which could still be an option now that Mikel Leshoure is dealing with some legal issues.

When healthy, Best provides the Lions a much needed threat in their backfield, but he’s only going to be a complimentary player for them moving forward.
