ProFootballTalk reports that the Detroit Lions have re-signed RB Kevin Smith.
This is an obvious indication that RB Jahvid Best, who has been out for a number of weeks after suffering his second concussion of the season, is no where near close to returning to game action. Best told the Detroit Free Press that he expects to play again this season but added that he had yet to be cleared to return.
As for Smith, he has dealt with a number of injuries in the last few years so it will be interesting to see what kind of shape he’s in. This decision likely had more to do with his familiarity with the teams offensive scheme than his overall ability. You can expect to see Maurice Morris and Keiland Williams split the majority of carries with Smith remaining the teams contingency option.
