Jahvid Best Will Be Cleared For Contact In June

Lions GM Martin Mayhew mentioned that RB Jahvid Best will be cleared to return to football activities and more specifically contact drills.

“He’s been doing everything in the offseason program and we expect he’ll be cleared sometime probably in June,” said Mayhew in an interview with WJR Monday, per Tim Twentyman. “We look forward to having him on the field.”

Best has already been participating in other workouts, so this is just the next step in the process for his return. The fact that the Lions chose not to address the position during the draft suggests that they’re comfortable moving forward with Best and Mikel Leshoure, who recently got into some trouble of his own.

If they only get even a modest increase in production from their running game next season, they should be able to build on last year’s postseason run.
