Jairus Byrd & T.J. Ward Unlikely To Be Options For The Eagles?

The Eagles biggest need as they head into the offseason could be at safety where Earl Wolff remains the only player who is assured a roster spot in 2014.

Eagles GM Howie Roseman was asked about his plans for the position during free agency and the draft.

“We talk about every position and wanting to get better,” Roseman said, via CSN Philly. “But certainly you look at that position and the free agents we have, and naturally there’s going to be some change over there.”

While Roseman wouldn’t rule out the possibility of signing one of the two top safeties available in the free agent market — Bills FS Jairus Byrd or Browns SS T.J. Ward — Reuben Frank believes the Eagles are more likely to target more reasonably priced options such as Chris Clemons, Mike Mitchell or Antoine Bethea.

We would add Donte WhitnerJames Ihedigbo and Bernard Pollard to list of speculative options as well.

Byrd and Ward are both in position to secure top-five contracts at the safety position, so any serious suitors will need to have plenty of available cap space and hope they aren’t franchised by their current teams.

Philadelphia is projected to have around $20 million in available cap space, to they could always check in the two players and see where things stand before deciding whether or not to pursue alternative options.
