Jalen Ramsey: If Trade Rumors Aren’t True, Jaguars Need To Open Extension Talks Next Year

Jaguars CB Jalen Ramsey said on Thursday that if the team doesn’t open extension talks after the season, it will be an indication that the reports he could be made available for trade next year are true.

Like I said, I’m going to let my agent and the front office handle that, but after what came out here, what was it five weeks ago or however many weeks ago it was, yeah I’m feeling like yeah, if y’all serious about that [a potential trade] not being real, then y’all need to make it happen,” Ramsey said, via ESPN.com. “If not, then maybe what came out five weeks ago will happen. We’ll see.”

Last month, Adam Schefter reported that the Jaguars are likely to consider trading Ramsey this offseason.

A league source told Schefter that he “absolutely” believes the Jaguars will entertain the idea of trading Ramsey and an NFL general manager said he would not be surprised if that’s the route Jacksonville goes with their star cornerback.

According to Schefter, much of this is due to the previously tweet from Ramsey, who said last week: “When I’m gone, y’all gone miss me.”

Ramsey told reporters last week that he was addressing “fake fans” that haven’t stuck with the Jaguars and stressed that he wants “to play for one team my whole career.

Ramsey, 24, is ao former first-round pick of the Jaguars back in 2016. He’s currently in the third year of his four-year, $23.35 million contract and set to make base salaries of $2.57 million and $3.63 million over the final two years of the agreement.

The Jaguars will have to decide on Ramsey’s fifth-year option next year.

In 2018, Ramsey has appeared in 13 games for the Jaguars and recorded 53 tackles, three interceptions and 10 pass defenses.
