Jamar Taylor’s Restructured Deal Will Save Cardinals $2.75M

According to Field Yates, new Cardinals CB Jamar Taylor agreed to reduce his base salary by $3.275 million before the Browns traded him to Arizona last week.

Yates says that Taylor’s salary was specifically dropped from $4.25 million down to $975,000 for the 2018 season. His salary cap figure was also reduced by $2.75 million as part of this deal.

The Browns traded Taylor to the Cardinals last week for a 2020 sixth-round pick.

Cleveland had been shopping Taylor around the NFL the past few months and the Cardinals were clearly in the market for cornerback help, so this deal could be a win-win for the two teams.

Taylor, 27, is a former second-round pick of the Dolphins back in 2013. Miami traded Taylor and the No. 250 overall pick to the Browns back in 2016 for the No. 223 selection in the 2016 NFL Draft.

Taylor was in the final year of a four-year, $3.626 million contract when the Browns signed him to a three-year, $15 million contract. He stands to make base salaries of $4.25 million and $4.07 million over the final two years of the agreement.

In 2017, Taylor appeared in all 16 games for the Browns and recorded 62 tackles, a half sack, a forced fumble and 10 pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 71 cornerback out of 120 qualifying players.
