Jameis Winston Wins Fans NFL Rookie of the Year Award

The NFL and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced Saturday that QB Jameis Winston has been voted by fans as the 2015 NFL Rookie of the Year.

“It feels great to receive this honor from the fans,” said Winston. “My goal coming into my rookie season was to come in and do whatever it took to help us win games and compete. As great as this individual accomplishment is, it is really a reflection of how well our entire offense did this season. The fans are what make our sport so great and getting this kind of recognition based on their votes is very special to me.

The other finalists for the award included: Raiders WR Amari Cooper, Rams RB Todd Gurley, Chiefs CB Marcus Peters and Seahawks WR Tyler Lockett.

Winston, 22, was taken with the No. 1 overall pick in last year’s NFL draft. He’ll be entering the second year of his four-year, $25.35 million rookie contract and stands to make a base salary of $525,000 to go along with a $1,062,231 roster bonus in 2016.

In 2015, Winston appeared in all 16 games for the Buccaneers and threw for 4,042 yards while completing 58.3 percent of his passes to go along with 22 touchdownd and 15 interceptions. He also contributed 213 yards rushing and six rushing touchdowns.
