James Harrison Likely To Undergo Surgery On His Knee

Mike Bires of the Beaver County Times reports that Steelers OLB James Harrisonmay need arthroscopic surgery on his injured knee” before the start of the season.

Harrison is currently on the team’s active/PUP list, because of what his agent, Bill Parise, calls an “irritation behind his knee cap.”

“So we might even look at doing a scope of that to get it cleaned up,” said Parise. “We’ll just have to wait see how it plays out.”

It’s pretty safe to assume that he will not be available for the team’s first game of the season, if he does in fact have the scope done on his knee. At 34, it’s hard to say for certain that he’ll be able to continue being as productive as he’s been for the last five years. In fact, Harrison has had at least 8.5 sacks in each season, dating back to 2007. Last year’s  fifth-round pick Chris Carter will most likely fill in while he’s out.
