Jared Allen Entering His Final Season With The Vikings?

Jeff Zulgad of ESPN 1500 Twin Cities expects the 2013 season to be Jared Allen‘s final year with the Vikings.

Allen, 31, is entering the final year of his contract and is set to make a staggering $14.28 million this season. He also counts $17 million against the team’s cap, but the team hasn’t approached him regarding a pay cut or a restructured deal.

This alone could be an indication of the Vikings future plans. If they wanted to keep Allen beyond this season, they could have opened extension talks that would have lowered his 2013 salary and cap number while adding some additional year’s to his contract, but they appear to be focused on getting younger across the board.

Zulgad still thinks Allen to secure a sizable contract on the open market next year, but doesn’t expect the Vikings to be the team that ultimately signs him.

We have Allen listed as the No. 25 player in our Top 50 – 2014 Free Agents list.
