Jared Allen Unlikely To Be Back With The Vikings Next Season

Vikings DE Jared Allen sounded as though he expects to be playing somewhere else next season.

“To be real honest, I’m going to have to look at the situation of the team,” said Allen, via USA TODAY. “If I continue to play, you want to try to win a championship at some point. Personal accolades can only go so far.”

Allen is the in the final year of his current deal and with the Vikings clearly in rebuilding mode, it’s unlikely that they would be willing to offer him a competitive deal next offseason.

“I don’t want to be chasing the ring. I want to earn the ring,” Allen said. “I want to be somewhere, and obviously, you’ve got to have parts in place and you’ve got to be contenders.

Allen, 31, should have a decent shot at securing a respectable contract on the open market.

One league executive who spoke to Tom Pelissero believes Allen could average $9 million to $11 million per year in his next contract, while a separate executive mentioned that Elvis Dumervil‘s five-year, $26 million contract could be a comparable deal.

We have Allen listed as the No. 42 player in our Top 50 Free Agents list, which is admittedly a little low, but his age and future value will be a bit of a concern from prospective NFL teams.
