Update:

Jarryd Hayne has already announced that he’s returning to the 49ers and joining their practice squad.

Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post reports that the 49ers re-signing RB Jarryd Hayne to practice squad now that he’s cleared waivers.

Hayne was expected to return to San Francisco, but there was some question whether they may add him to their active roster or the practice squad.

However, the 49ers elected to sign veteran RB Shaun Draughn to their active roster.

Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area reports that RB Jarryd Hayne wound up going unclaimed on waivers and is now expected to return to either the 49ers 53-man roster or their practice squad in the coming days.

San Francisco, somewhat surprisingly, waived Hayne over the weekend to make room for RB Kendall Gaskins, who was promoted from their practice squad.

The 49ers wound up sustaining a number of injuries at the running back position. Reggie Bush is believed to be out for the year with a torn ACL.

Hayne, 27, signed a three-year contract that included $115,100 guaranteed with the 49ers back in March. He stands to make a base salary of $435,000 for the 2015 season.

This season, he’s appeared in six games and ran for 25 yards on eight carries (3.1 YPC) to go along with one reception for seven yards receiving. He has also contributed 76 kick return yards.
