Jason Garrett Has Tried To Convince Jason Witten To Come Out Of Retirement

Adam Schefter of ESPN, citing league sources, reports that Cowboys HC Jason Garrett has made multiple attempts this season to get TE Jason Witten to come out of retirement and help them push for a playoff spot.

However, Schefter says that Witten has resisted Garrett’s overtures, even though some were made in recent weeks.

The Cowboys have yet to find an adequate replacement for Witten and have dealt with injuries at the position.

Sources tell Schefter that Witten is committed to his broadcast analyst job on Monday Night Football.

Witten, 36, is a former third-round pick of the Cowboys back in 2003. He was in the second year of his five-year, $29.6 million contract and set to make a base salary of $5.75 million for the 2018 season when he announced his retirement from the NFL back in May.
ESPN later hired Witten as a broadcast analyst.
In 2017, Witten appeared in 16 games for the Cowboys and caught 63 passes for 560 yards receiving and five touchdowns.
