Jason Pierre-Paul Met With Giants’ Brass, Team Wants Him Back

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Giants DE Jason Pierre-Paul met with GM Jerry Reese, HC Tom Coughlin, and DL coach Robert Nunn on Monday.

  • According to Schefter, the Giants made it clear that they want him back with the team.

Jason Cole first reported that JPP was meeting with the Giants Monday, and had the intention of signing his franchise tender and playing as soon as possible.

As of now, there’s no word regarding Pierre-Paul taking a physical for the team, which could be an issue given the damage JPP sustained to his hand a few months ago.

Cole previously mentioned that the Giants could still place him on the non-football injury list if he signs his franchise tender or hold him out for the entire season if he continues to have problems with his hand, which would create more issues at a later time.

Kimberly Jones reported that the Giants want any agreement with Pierre-Paul to include incentives for playing time and production, so this will be something to watch.

New York wound up placing JPP on the reserve/franchise player list a few months ago. It’s worth mentioning that while he’s on this list, JPP won’t count against the team’s 53-man roster until he’s activated.

Pierre-Paul, 26, played out his five-year, $20.05 million rookie contract that included $11,629,807 million guaranteed. The Giants used their franchise tag on Pierre-Paul back in early March, which will pay him a fully guaranteed salary of $14.813 million for the 2015 season.

In 2014, Pierre-Paul recorded 77 tackles, 12.5 sacks, three forced fumbles and a recovery over the course of 16 games. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 7 defensive end in a 4-3 system out of 59 qualifying players.

We’ll have more regarding Pierre-Paul and the Giants as the news is available.
