Jason Pierre-Paul Returning To Giants Monday, Will Take Physical

Update:

Ian Rapoport and Albert Breer are reporting that Jason Pierre-Paul is in New York his physical with the Giants.

JPP’s hand is reportedly wrapped for protection, but he doesn’t have any broken bones. According to Rapoport, Pierre-Paul is expected to play with a cast on his hand.

Giants plan to have HC Tom Coughlin, owner John Mara and GM Jerry Reese meet with him when he’s ready, per Rapoport.

Rapoport expects the two parties to eventually agree on a new contract that will prevent him from missing games checks. However, the Giants would reportedly want him to reduce his salary.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Giants and franchise DE Jason Pierre-Paul are planning on reuniting Monday.

JPP is reportedly scheduled to fly into New York and take a physical with the team. However, there are still contractual issues that need to be worked out.

This will be the Giants first contact with Pierre-Paul since the fireworks accident that cost him his right index finger.

Dan Graziano of ESPN reported last week that JPP was expected to return to the Giants with the expectation of playing earlier on in the season.

New York wound up placing JPP on the reserve/franchise player list earlier in the week, but it sounds like he’ll be activated at some point in the near future. It’s worth mentioning that while he’s on this list, JPP won’t count against the team’s 53-man roster until he’s activated.

Pierre-Paul, 26, played out his five-year, $20.05 million rookie contract that included $11,629,807 million guaranteed. The Giants wound up using their franchise tag on Pierre-Paul back in early March, which will pay him a fully guaranteed salary of $14.813 million for the 2015 season.

In 2014, Pierre-Paul recorded 77 tackles, 12.5 sacks, three forced fumbles and a recovery over the course of 16 games. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 7 defensive end in a 4-3 system out of 59 qualifying players.
