Bears Rule QB Jay Cutler Out For Week 11

Update:

Bears HC Marc Trestman told reporters on Monday that QB Jay Cutler has been ruled out for Week 11’s game against the Ravens.

This, of course, means that Josh McCown will get his second start of the season. The fact that Chicago already ruled Cutler out could be an indication that they expect him to miss multiple weeks due to his high ankle sprain.

The Chicago Bears announced on Monday that QB Jay Cutler has a high ankle sprain and is week-to-week.

  • Jason La Canfora mentions that the “week-to-week” tag usually is a pretty good indication that a player will be out for a little while.
  • La Canfora doesn’t expect him to play in Week 11.

Cutler remained in the game, despite suffering the injury at some point during the second or third quarter. HC Marc Trestman elected to keep Cutler in the game until the team’s final possession in which Josh McCown led them on a scoring drive that nearly tied the game.

Trestman admitted Monday that he probably should have turned to McCown sooner.

“I went through the tape closely this morning and watched Jay’s performance, and I thought he did well into the fourth quarter,” Trestman said, via ESPN Chicago. “But at the end of the day, if we had to do it all over again, maybe it would be one series before the two-minute drill.

The Bears get the Ravens in Week 11. We’ll have more updates regarding Cutler and the Bears quarterback situation throughout the week.
