Jay Gruden Expected To Be Top Target Of Bengals If Available

Ian Rapoport reports that if current Redskins HC Jay Gruden ends up being available, he would be a “top target” for the Bengals, who are expected to move on from the long-time HC Marvin Lewis after the season.

Bengals defensive coordinator Paul Guenther has been mentioned as an internal candidate to keep an eye on.

One interesting name to watch for Cincinnati could be current Browns HC Hue Jackson, considering that he had success as their offensive coordinator a few years ago.

As for Gruden, it remains to be seen whether major changes will be coming in Washington after a disappointing 2017 season. Washington signed him to a two-year extension back in March, so it would be somewhat surprising to see them move on a year later.

Gruden, 50, began his NFL coaching career with the Buccaneers as an offensive assistant. He spent seven years in the position before departing for a job with the Florida Tuskers.

Gruden returned to the NFL as the Bengals offensive coordinator in 2011 before he was hired as the Redskins coach for the 2014 season.

During his four years in Washington, Gruden has led them to a record of 27-34 (44.4 percent), which includes one playoff appearance back in 2015.
