Jets Activate DL Muhammad Wilkerson From Active/PUP List

The New York Jets announced Tuesday that they’ve officially activated DL Muhammad Wilkerson from the active/PUP list.

In regards to Wilkerson’s recovery from a broken leg, he said that it’s “still a process” for him.

“It’s still a process for me,” Wilkerson said last week. “I’m just going to keep working hard rehabbing the leg and doing whatever the trainers and head coach have got for me.

As of now, the Jets still have RT Breno Giacomini and WR Devin Smith on the active/PUP list.

Wilkerson, who just signed a five-year extension with the Jets worth $86 million a few weeks ago, is still on track to be ready for the Jets Week 1 match up against the Bengals.

Wilkerson, 26, is a former first-round pick of the Jets back in 2011. He played out his rookie contract with the team and was in line to be an unrestricted free agent this offseason before the Jets used their franchise tag on him and surprisingly locked him up to a long-term deal just before the deadline.

In 2015, Wilkerson recorded 59 tackles, 12 sacks, two forced fumbles and six pass defenses over the course of 15 games. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 5 defensive end in a 3-4 system out of 57 qualifying players.
