Jets Prepared To Sign QB David Garrard In The Coming Weeks?

Update:

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that a source has informed him that free agent QB David Garrard “anticipates putting a deal together” the New York Jets after they’re able to get their cap situation stabilized.

Schefter’s source added that “both sides are feeling good about a possible deal.

Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports that the Jets brought in former Dolphins QB  QB David Garrard for a workout on Thursday.

Garrard, 35, was released by the Dolphins last year after he suffered knee injury during training camp. It seemed as though Garrard has legitimate shot at winning the Dolphins’ starting quarterback job before the injury.

The Jets have said that they intend to add competition at the quarterback position, so there’s reasonable a chance Garrard could end up with the starting job if they do in fact sign him at some point. He’s likely to require a very reasonable salary at that this point in his career, which fits with the Jets current financial situation.
